The steps in our journey…
Higher Calling Christian Ministries (HCCM) held its Initial Worship Service on Sunday, February 21, 1999 at Middleton Valley Academy located in Temple Hills, MD. This non-denominational, Christian church began with 12 members; the number associated with God’s governance and elective purposes. The name, “Higher Calling” was divinely inspired by Philippians 3:13-16. In this passage of Scripture, Paul begins by declaring his individual commitment to Christ and concludes with an invitation to other like-minded believers.
Much like the New Testament Church at Philippi, HCCM was birthed out of obedience to a God-given vision. Acts 16:9 records that Paul’s plan was interrupted by Holy Spirit who revealed “in a vision” a man pleading for help. In response to that revelation, Paul and his missionary team immediately journeyed to Philippi in Macedonia where the Gospel was expounded and a local church was established. We too, have been called and commissioned by Holy Spirit to help those in need.
In April 2001, HCCM was blessed to relocate from our temporary home in Temple Hills, MD and to purchase condo property in Hyattsville, MD. While there, a number of church-based and outreach ministry teams were developed including Victorious Living Bible Institute and our first international partnership with Brown School in St. Catherine, Jamaica.
In April 2013, HCCM was again favored by God to relocate from Hyattsville, MD to our present church home in Capitol Heights, MD. It’s our heart’s desire to serve and support our beloved neighbors. Until the current covid-19 crisis, HCCM has hosted Community C.A.L.L. and U.N.I.T.Y.’s Fun and Fitness Camp every summer since 1999.
This unprecedented season prevents physical assembly, but the Family of HCCM remains committed to caring and sharing the Gospel through proclamation and partnership. We are grateful for every online opportunity and TOGETHER WE ARE PRESSING FORWARD!
